Puerto Rico TESOL (PRTESOL) is a nonprofit professional association for educators, administrators, and college students dedicated to the improvement and advancement of teaching English to speakers of other languages at all levels of public and private education in Puerto Rico. Our organization supports our members’ self-improvement efforts and their strides towards academic excellence.
In recognizing and supporting our members’ professional and academic aspirations, PRTESOL is pleased to announce the acceptance of nominations for its annual awards, grants, and scholarships honoring excellence in service to the TESOL field. The recipients will be presented during the 2025 PRTESOL Annual Convention to be held on November 14 -15, 2025.
Awards, Grants, and Scholarships
The PRTESOL awards, grants, and scholarships for 2025 are:
• One (1) PRTESOL Award for Lifetime Service Achievement in TESOL: Dr. Marie E. Aloise Lifetime Achievement Award
• Two (2) PRTESOL Scholarship Grants to Support Continuing Education in
TESOL: One (1) at Master’s Level and One (1) at Doctoral Level
• One (1) PRTESOL Award to Promote Excellence in ESL Teaching Programs • One (1) PRTESOL Travel Grant to Attend the Annual TESOL International Association Convention
• One (1) PRTESOL Award to Recognize Recent Research Contribution to the TESOL Field • One (1) PRTESOL Outstanding Undergraduate Student in TESOL Award
• Two (2) PRTESOL Outstanding ESL Educator Awards: One (1) at K-12 Level and One (1) at Higher Education Level
• One (1) PRTESOL Exceptional Volunteer Service Award (In honor of PRTESOL Founder: Paquita Ayala)
Eligibility Requirements
▪ PRTESOL awards, grants, and scholarships are available ONLY to PRTESOL members. Membership must be active at the time of application.
▪ Current members of the 2025 PRTESOL Board of Directors are NOT eligible for these awards, except for the Dr. Marie E. Aloise Lifetime Achievement Award and the Paquita Ayala Exceptional Volunteer Service Award.
▪ A PRTESOL member may apply for or be nominated for multiple awards, grants, or scholarships but will NOT receive more than one (1) award per year.
▪ A PRTESOL member may receive an award only once. If he/she has received an award in the past, he/she is no longer eligible for that award.
Nominations
• The nominator must be a PRTESOL member who has direct knowledge of the nominee’s service to the ESL/TESOL field.
• The nominator must write a letter of nomination stating why he or she feels that the nominee is worthy of the award. The letter should describe the candidate in terms of the eligibility requirements listed above. The nomination should include the nominee’s biographical sketch and professional background.
• Nominations for the awards must include the nominee and the nominator’s names, addresses, telephone numbers, and/or e-mail addresses.
PRTESOL encourages its members to apply for any of the following awards, grants, and scholarships. To nominate or apply, complete the application form or nomination form and submit all required documentation into one Word document or a PDF file to prtesolawards@gmail.com.

Selection Procedure
The Awards, Grants, and Scholarships Committee will recommend the candidates that should receive these awards to the 2025 PRTESOL Board of Directors for final approval on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
Timeline for the 2025 PRTESOL Awards, Grants, and Scholarships Committee:
• August 2025: Announcement of the 2025 PRTESOL Call for Awards, Grants, and Scholarships Nominations
• September 30, 2025: 2025 PRTESOL Call for Awards, Grants, and Scholarships Nominations Deadline/Closing Date
• October 3, 2025: 2025 PRTESOL Awards, Grants, and Scholarships Committee Review and Evaluation of Nomination Submissions
• October 25, 2025: 2025 PRTESOL Awards, Grants, and Scholarships Committee Report for PRTESOL Board of Directors Final Approval
• November 14-15, 2025: Presentation of the 2025 PRTESOL Awards, Grants, and Scholarships at the 2025 PRTESOL Annual Convention.
